1. Enable two-step verification
This is the single most effective way to prevent someone else from taking over your account. Two-step verification requires a six-digit PIN anytime your phone number is registered on a new device. Even if someone gets your SIM or verification code, they can’t access your account without it.
Set it up in Settings → Account → Two-step verification.
2. Control who has access
Only give account access to people who need it. Review your linked devices regularly, and remove any you don’t recognize. When someone leaves your team, update your PIN right away.
If you have multiple people managing customer conversations, consider using Meta Business Suite to share your WhatsApp inbox with your team. This lets you assign roles and permissions without sharing your login credentials or phone number.
3. Keep your app updated
Every update includes security fixes. Turn on automatic updates so you’re always running the latest version of WhatsApp Business and your device’s operating system.
4. Follow best practices for messaging
Security also means respecting the people who message you. Only contact customers who have opted in, honor opt-out requests, and make sure every message provides value. Following these practices protects your account from being reported or restricted.
5. Keep your account safe
If you think your account has been compromised, re-verify your phone number to log out any unauthorized users, reset your PIN, and remove unfamiliar linked devices. If someone is impersonating your business, report them directly in the app.
